Illinois National Guard team heads to Afghanistan

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) _ Another Illinois National Guard team is deploying to Afghanistan to help NATO forces from Poland.

The five soldiers left after a Friday deployment ceremony at Camp Lincoln in Springfield.

Lt. Col. Jose Jaques of DeKalb is the team commander. He tells The (Springfield) State Journal-Register the soldiers will help Polish forces with personnel and equipment.

The Polish troops are conducting training and removing military equipment from Afghanistan, where foreign combat troops are to withdraw by the end of the year.
