LAMBERT AIRPORT (KTVI) – Tens of thousands of folks are flying into and out of Lambert Airport on this day before Thanksgiving. People like 12-year-old Madison Grisham can't wait to see her father. She's flying to Utah for a visit. She said, "I haven't seen him in forever, I'm probably going to go ice skating or snowboarding and maybe hang out with him for a while." As many as 28 thousand passengers move into and out of Lambert on a typical day. The day before Thanksgiving that number grows to around 40,000.

Snowflakes began falling here around noon but the winter weather doesn't seem to be slowing things at Lambert. However, a winter storm on the east coast is causing problems.  Most of the delays and cancellations here are because of problems in and out of the New York area.

If you're coming to pick up someone the best advice is use one of the cell phone lots, it's free and it will make the pickup procedure easier for you and everyone else.  Airport Spokesman Jeff Lea said, "We really want to keep the roadways clear and not have the traffic jams at our passenger pickups at both terminals.  There's only active loading so we really encourage people drive up to the curb side when their passenger party is at the curb side ready to load in."

Sunday is expected to be even busier; it's typically the busiest travel day of the year. If you are checking luggage or flying overseas arrive two hours earlier. Any questions about your flight call your airline.

Meanwhile, area roads were wet from the snowflakes but traffic has been moving along at a good pace.  Slush was building up in some spots along the highways.  MODOT had trucks out and crews were salting where needed.
