Woman gets 90 days, probation in husband’s death
CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) _ A 70-year-old St. Louis County woman charged in her husband’s stabbing death has been sentenced to reduced charges that could keep her out of jail for all but three months.
Mary Ann Mullenix was initially charged with second-degree murder in the July 2013 death of 76-year-old real estate developer Ivan Mullenix Sr. at the couple’s home in suburban Country Life Acres.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Mullenix was convicted of second-degree involuntary manslaughter and sentenced Thursday to five years of probation and a three-month alcohol treatment program. She will have to serve four years in prison if she violates her probation.
Prosecutors said the charges were reduced because Ivan Mullenix had a history of domestic abuse against his wife, who could have raised a claim of self-defense.
