Seven St. Louis municipalities accused of charging illegal fees in court

muinicipalities suedST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) –   Lawyers from St. Louis University and Arch City Defenders filed the suit. It claims the cities of Ferguson, Beverly Hills, Fenton, Jennings, Pine Lawn, Wellston and Velda City charge warrant fees not authorized by state law.  Their concern is the lack of record keeping of citizens who paid their bail and warrant recall fees.

Attorneys also claim Bel-Ridge, Florissant and Ferguson are chronic offenders for jailing clients who cannot afford fines and mistreat them in court.
