MACOMB, Ill. (AP) _ Three men were arrested and eight injured by pepper spray at a dance on the Western Illinois University campus.

WIU spokeswoman Darcie Shinberger says several fights broke out about 11 p.m. Friday at a dance hosted by the Black Student Association in the University Union.

Campus police were able to get those involved in scuffling to leave. But Shinberger says fighting resumed outside and Macomb police used pepper spray to disperse the crowd. She says two people were treated at a local hospital for pepper-spray effects and released; six were treated on-site.

Campus police arrested a 22-year-old student on suspicion of battery and criminal damage to property and a 19-year-old student on suspicion of resisting a peace officer. Macomb police arrested a 20-year-old Willowbrook man on suspicion of resisting a peace officer.
