ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – Police officers from the City of St. Louis and St. Louis County spent the day Tuesday randomly handing out $100 bills to Holiday shoppers all over town, trying to spread a little Christmas cheer, and reinforce the message that not every encounter with a police officer has to be cause for alarm.

'It feels great because it is a surprise,' said St. Louis County officer Danielle Durham.

'The citizen’s aren`t expecting it so just be a blessing to them it feels really great,' she said.

In the Bevo Mill neighborhood, Cherice Bonds was taken by surprise by two St. Louis officers.

'I was shocked, it was surprising and was unexpected really,' she said.

The money for the giveaway was donated by four St. Louis County families who want to remain anonymous.

They hope by donating just over $36,000 for the giveaway, it will help police improve relations with the community.
