Police locate parents of 2 children found wandering on New Year’s Eve

BELLEFONTAINE NEIGHBORS, MO (KTVI)- Two young children were found wandering the streets in North St. Louis County on New Year`s Eve. Bellefontaine Neighbors police spent about five hours looking for the parents.

At this time, the children have been placed in protective custody.

The two-year-old and three- year-old were spotted by someone knocking on the door of a vacant home in the 9900 block of Hayward around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night. Police had Fox 2 show video of the children during its morning newscasts with the hopes that someone would recognize the children. It worked.

The parents called police and they are now in contact with officials with protective custody. Police said the children were spending the night with a relative in Bellefontaine Neighbors when somehow they got outside. They were only wearing pajamas and sandals, but they are okay.

Police said it is too early to know if any charges will be filed.
