One killed, one injured in wrong-way crash on I-170

UNIVERSITY CITY, MO (KTVI)- One person was killed and another seriously injured in a wrong-way crash on I-170 Saturday morning. The two-car crash occurred between Olive and Delmar around 2:40am.

According to University City Police, a 52-year-old man from St. Louis got onto I-170  at Delmar traveling north in the southbound lanes. He crossed three lanes of traffic and struck a car driven by a 26-year-old man from Maryland Heights head on. The 26-year-old was killed. The 52-year-old was seriously hurt and was taken to an area hospital where was reportedly undergoing surgery.

Witnesses to the crash said that the wrong-way driver did not have his headlights on.

The southbound lanes of I-170 were shut down for several hours while the crash was investigated. They were reopen just before 7:00am.
