(KTVI)- Kombucha tea is a fermented drink made by adding a colony of bacteria and yeast to sweetened tea and allowing the mix to ferment. Drinkers claim kombucha can stimulate the immune system and improve digestion and liver function, but there's no scientific evidence to support the claims.

Kombucha can be expensive when bought in stores, but you can make your own. Mary Ostafi is the founder of Urban Harvest STL and a Sustainability Specialist at Washington University. She hosts classes that provide a step by step, hands-on lesson in kombucha brewing. There are few spots left for class on Saturday,  February 28 at 11am.
