BRIDGETON, MO (KTVI)- The St. Louis County Police Department has made a major donation to help those in need. On Monday, they donated more than 2,800 pounds of non-perishable food and other items to the St. Louis Area Foodbank.

The items were originally donated by members of the community to the police over the last few months when the officers were working so many hours due to unrest in Ferguson and other parts of the metro St. Louis area.

There is a surplus of items so police wanted to give back to help the community. Items include everything from snacks, like chips and granola bars, to hand sanitizer.

The items will be distributed throughout St. Louis County.
