JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KTVI) – Missouri’s 2014-2015 deer hunting season closed January 15 with the conclusion of archery season, the state’s conservation department reported.

Hunters hauled in approximately 260,552 deer, nearly 8,000 more deer than the previous season. Archers accounted for approximately 51,755 deer, with Jefferson (1,080), St. Louis (1,063), and Franklin (1,032) counties recording the highest totals.

Four people died while hunting this past season. One person fell from a tree stand, another person died following a heater explosion in a deer blind, a third individual suffered a fatal gunshot wound from a fellow hunter, and the fourth person had a heart attack.

The 2015-2016 archery deer and turkey season begins September 15 and runs through January 15, 2016, which excludes the November portion of deer season (November 14 – November 24).
