ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - DeAmon White owns Ozell’s Kitchen in north St. Louis, the small business owner says crime in his neighborhood is out of control. The latest incident was a smash and grab at his restaurant and store. According to White someone broke into his business at the 5400 block of Delmar early Monday morning. A customer contacted him and told him the bad news. Upon arrival White found a busted front door and broken glass. His cash register, a small amount of change and merchandise were gone.
“They came in and they stole tobacco products, honey buns, the most shameful part is they got away with 2 bags of uncooked chicken.” Said White
White says his building has been plagued with thefts. Copper pipes were stolen last month and a nearby boutique was vandalized three weeks ago. The shop is known to help low-income families in need. He wants St. Louis city police to do more patrols in his area.
“What we do for a lot of our customers is we extend store credit when they don’t have money. There’s stuff going on everyday people are breaking in and out of the building in the daytime.” said White
FOX 2 called St. Louis city police and officials say they’re still investigating. Now all White can do is board up, clean up and hope for the best. Owners are also hoping surveillance video from nearby buildings will help police catch the thieves. They plan to reopen as soon as possible
“I’m not going anywhere they can’t run me out of nowhere I’m here to stay.” he said
