One dead, two seriously injured in I-55 accident

ST. LOUIS, MO – A 69-year-old man was killed and two people taken to a hospital following an accident Thursday afternoon on Interstate 55.

According to Leah Freeman, a spokeswoman for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the accident occurred on I-55 northbound near Loughborough.

A vehicle carrying five people struck the median and overturned. Three people, two women and a man, were taken to the hospital. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital. The two women were listed in critical condition. The other two occupants were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The exact cause of the accident has not been identified.

The interstate northbound lanes were closed through the evening rush hour.
