Carbondale man indicted for threatening federal employee

BENTON, IL – A federal grand jury indicted a 22-year-old Carbondale, Illinois man for allegedly threatening to kill an employee of the Social Security Administration last month, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois Stephen Wigginton said.

Prosecutors said Steven Vizcarrondo made the threat on January 27. He was arrested February 5 and charged with influencing a federal official by threat.

If convicted, Vizcarrondo faces up to 10 years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release.
