Belleville teacher’s aide charged with striking student

BELLEVILLE, IL (KTVI) – Belleville Police have charged a teacher’s aide with striking a student in the face.  64-year-old Sheila Scheffer of Sauget faces one count of aggravated battery.  Police allege Scheffer was working as a teacher’s aide at Douglas Elementary when she used her hand to strike the 10-year-old boy.   Detectives interviewed witnesses to the incident and said Belleville District 118 officials cooperated with investigators.  Scheffer is not in custody yet, but police say she’s making arrangements through her attorney to turn herself in. The aggravated battery charge is a Class 3 felony.  Her bond has been set at $10,000.
