Chesterfield shoplifter busted after leaving a clue in her Uggs
CHESTERFIELD, MO (KTVI) – St. Louis County prosecutors have charged a St. Louis city woman with theft, and say she made a huge blunder at the scene of the crime. According to charging documents, 33-year-old Keisha Wilkes is facing felony stealing charges after the alleged shoplifting at the UGG Store at St. Louis Premium Outlets in Chesterfield.
Police allege Wilkes was shopping at the store and took a pair of men’s boots, hid them in a purse, then left without paying. For some reason, the boots and bag were later found in the parking lot of the shopping center. Police searched the bag and also found a key piece of evidence. They say inside the bag was an appointment card from the Missouri Board of Probation and Parole. Wilkes’ name was on the appointment card, as well as a date and time.
Police worked quickly to determine that Wilkes was being supervised by that office and checked surveillance video from the UGG Store. They determined Wilkes was the woman on the tape and showed up at her probation appointment. She also showed up, and was arrested. Police say that Wilkes confessed to the crime. She’s charged with her third stealing related offense and was held on $12,500 bond.
