HAYTI, Mo. (AP) _ The Missouri State Highway Patrol says one person died and nine were injured in an accident in southeast Missouri involving a church van.

The accident happened Wednesday evening on a Pemiscot County road near Hayti.

The patrol says a vehicle driven by a St. Louis man hit a truck he was trying to pass and then hit the church van head on, setting the van on fire. The van from the Kinfolk Ridge Baptist Church in Caruthersville was carrying people to a banquet.

The driver of the van, 43-year-old Bobby L. Coleman, of Caruthersville, died at Pemiscot Memorial Hospital. Seven passengers in the van suffered injuries ranging from moderate to serious.

KFVS reports the car’s driver was hospitalized with serious injuries and the truck driver suffered moderate injuries.
