Railroad vandalism putting drivers at risk

BRIGHTON, IL (KTVI)-- Acts of vandalism could lead to people getting killed in Brighton, Illinois.

The Macoupin County sheriff says railroad crossing warning systems have been damaged by the vandals between Brighton and Shipman, Illinois.

Since the first of the year, half dozen crossings have been hit. You can see the broken remains of one of the red lights that have since been repaired.

When the sheriff posted this surveillance photo of a suspect on the department's Facebook page the calls began rolling in fast and furious.

People say they know who the man is.

The sheriff and local citizens want to see an end the potentially dangerous acts.

So far no one has been injured because of the vandalism. The sheriff expects the suspect and possibly some accomplices to be arrested soon. It's not yet been determine if they will be charged by the state or the feds.
