ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - It’s not just broken pipes from the big freeze. Plumbers are in demand for another reason. They’re being tapped to replace water heaters because some customers are trying to beat the deadline for new federal regulations.
Manufacturers must meet stricter efficiency guidelines beginning April 16th. Kirkwood Plumbing’s Paul Schaefer says that means future water heaters will cost more.
“I’ve had many people that have already called and we’ve started switching out heaters six months ago because we knew this was coming,” said Schaefer.
Customers will be able to purchase current water heater models until existing inventories are gone.
