AFFTON, MO (KTVI)- A massive water main break overnight in Affton caused some serious problems. Missouri American Water crews had to shut off the water for several homes in the area. The break happened on South Rock Hill Road near Gravois. The water started gushing out of the water main around 10 p.m. Monday night. The cold temperatures quickly froze the water that spilled onto the roads leaving sheets of ice covering the surrounding roads. That forced crews to close south Rock Hill Road near Valcour Avenue for about 6 hours.

By 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, the crews had repaired the water main and placed a temporary patch over the whole that was dug to reach the water main.

A permanent patch will be placed on the whole at a later date.
