MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO (KTVI)- Carol Hurst from the Old Towne Spice Shoppe in St. Charles stopped by to make a Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate. This rich and velvety smooth drink has the sweetness of fine cocoa with buttery caramel, with the bonus of sea salt, just like the Salted Caramel candies. Make up a batch in the slowcooker for movie night, when the kids are out making snowmen, or even a Sunday brunch.

Recipe- Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate

1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips

1 cup milk chocolate chips

½ cup caramels, unwrapped (approximately 8 caramels)

4 cups milk

2 cups heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 teaspoon coarse sea salt

Caramel sauce for drizzling on top/garnish (like caramel ice cream topping)

Whipped cream for garnishing on top (can be the spray/can type)

1. Add chocolate chips, caramels, milk, heavy cream, and vanilla to the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 2 hours, stirring every ½ hour.

2. If the chocolate chips or caramels are not completely melted after 2 hours, cover and allow to cook for 30-45 minutes longer. When ready to serve, stir in the sea salt. Serve hot with whipped cream and additional caramel sauce topping each mug, then sprinkle on a little more coarse sea salt.
