FERGUSON, MO (KTVI)- The Ferguson Toys R Us is set to close its doors for good. A spokeswoman tells FOX 2 the decision was made before the unrest in Ferguson started. A total of 36 employees work at the location on West Florissant Ave. The company says it will try to relocate them to nearby stores with job openings.

The store was among the Ferguson businesses that were targeted by looters and damaged during the unrest.

The timing of the announcement of the grand jury decision in the Michael Brown case also kept the business from opening on Black Friday. The company says the decision to shut down the store for good was made because the location “was not meeting its needs.”

The company served the Ferguson community for more than 25 years, but the store will close at the end of March.

The company has experienced a decline in holiday sales for three years in a row.
