ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – Don’t be surprised if you see snow sticking to road surfaces Saturday night.  In some cases it may actually be by design.

IDOT’S Joseph Monroe says his crews are bracing for the possibility of freezing rain, and some snow on the pavement could help.  He says the snow could serve as a buffer, keeping ice from forming on the pavement.

IDOT did pre-treat bridges, but relied on previous chemical drops when snow started falling.  Crews then added chemicals and began plowing.

Monroe asks drivers to stay at least 200-300 feet behind plows.  He says plows were struck by passing cars during 4 straight storms.  He says drivers often underestimate how far plows stick out from the sides of the trucks.
