Do you see a patriotic image or a desecration of the flag? That’s the question swirling around Facebook about a photo Vanessa Hicks, a Virginia Beach photographer and Navy veteran, posted to her page.

The photographer tells WTKR-TV, “That flag, the uniform, that baby–exactly what every service member is out there fighting for.”

A Facebook page called “You Call Yourself a Photographer?” shared the photo and claims Hicks desecrated the American flag by using it as a prop.

Hicks then started getting comments and private messages on all of her photos.  She tried to report the page to Facebook but they refused to take it down.

Vanessa joined the Navy after high school. She served for four years and is now married to a deployed sailor.  She says that she is not backing down.

“I hope that other people want this pose,” she told WTKR. “I will absolutely do it and share it proudly.”
