INDPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) _ Two Independence women have been charged with failing to seek medical care for an emaciated 10-year-old child.

Twenty-five-year-old Chianna Hendrix and 36-year-old LaTrecia Hendrix were charged Tuesday in Jackson County Circuit Court with one count each of abuse or neglect of a child. They are jailed on $100,000 bond. No attorney is listed for either woman in online court records.

The probable cause statement says officers responded Monday to report of a runaway and summoned an ambulance because the child was sick and appeared to have been scratched.

The court records say a bottle of urine was found on the floor in the child’s home. A younger child in the home told investigators that the 10-year-old child was often beaten for stealing food and was locked in the basement.
