PARKHILLS, MO (KTVI) - A 6-year-old girl is being called a hero after she helped saved a man who was asleep inside his burning home. It happened early Monday morning in Park Hills, Missouri. Little Kate Gibson lives across the street from the home that burned. Kate said, “I’m a hero and saved somebody’s life.”
Kate saw the flames shooting as high as the trees from her bedroom window around 1:30 a.m. and alerted her mom, Tennille Gibson. Tennille said, “Very, very proud I’m delighted.” She ran to wake-up her neighbor, Scott Sansoucie. Tennille added, “It took me a good two or three minutes to wake him up so I’m not sure if he was in the beginning stages of smoke inhalation because there was smoke everywhere.
Sansoucie is doing okay. And it seems everyone is praising Kate as a hero. Kyle Gibson is Kate’s father, “Being her dad I always think she’s special I guess that kind of proves it.” Tennille said, “I wish everybody could be more like her she’s always willing to help everybody you know if she hadn’t woke up no telling what would have happened.”
The fire department and the county are looking at the possibility of recognizing or honoring Kate. Patrick Mullins is an associate county commissioner, “It’s these people that are the unsung heroes I commend the fire department but most of all this little girl if it wasn’t for her the county coroner would be traveling to my area and doing his job.”
Kate shared some of her words of wisdom for everyone. She said, “Be kind, be nice, help other people if they’re in danger.”
Scott Sansousie said Kate was a sweetheart that he’s grateful to Kate and her parents and he has a special treat coming for Kate.
