EAST ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - Tuesday’s storms also wreaked havoc in Illinois causing temporary road closures due to localized flooding, and hail clogging sewer lines. In East St. Louis a stretch of road at 8th street beneath the Poplar Street Bridge Complex filled with water.

Eighteen wheelers were probably tall enough to make it through the water, but a van got stuck when it`s engine flooded.

A AAA spokesperson advises drivers not to drive, walk or wading into flooded waters. They say mostly because of disease and the threat of getting washed away. But they remind drivers that it only takes a few feet of running water to sweep a car away or even tip one over.

Best advice when you see a flooded road is to turn around.
