ST. ANN, MO (KTVI)- Police are trying to figure out who broke into a middle school in the Ritenour School District. It happened at Hoech Middle on Ashby Road in St. Ann. A custodian discovered a broken window about 6:15a.m. Friday. St. Ann police were immediately called in. Blood marks were also discovered on floors and doors inside the school. Investigators believe whoever broke in suffered a cut on the broken glass. Authorities found nothing missing.

The students were taken to two gyms and a cafeteria at the school for some two and a half hours while police investigated and the blood was cleaned up.

"It`s unfortunate that we had a school break in this morning. The number one thing for us is to make sure that our kids are safe. And that`s why we took our kids to the gym and that`s why we made sure they were in a safe area the entire time that police were investigating," said Doug Bray, the Director of Communications for the Ritenour School District.

Students returned to class around 10:15a.m.

Police are reviewing surveillance video from the campus. So far there are no suspects.

There are about 650 sixth through eighth graders at the school.
