ALTON, IL (KTVI) – Investigators have confirmed the man killed by a police officer Monday afternoon is indeed that of Isaac Jimenez.

The Madison County Coroner said Jimenez, 27, died of a gunshot wound to the chest. He’d been shot elsewhere, but those wounds were said to be non-life threatening.

Alton police responded to a home break-in just after 5 p.m. in the 3400 block of Lincoln Avenue. Four officers arrived on the scene and made contact with Jimenez. They said Jimenez had a weapon and was told to drop it. He refused to comply and police fired shots.

The officer who shot Jimenez is said to be a 10-year veteran of the police force.

No other information regarding the shooting has been disclosed.

Jimenez was a suspect in a shooting in Affton on Sunday morning.

Funeral services for Jimenez are still pending.
