ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – A Better Together report released Wednesday revealed some alarming things about police equipment and spending in the St. Louis region.

At least two police departments, Wellston and Flordell Hills, can’t even afford to provide officers with guns.

Despite the lack of equipment, the St. Louis region spends more than $350 dollars per resident on police service. That’s about $100 more than similar size regions spend.

“In some departments you only get a badge and a name tag,” Better Together Spokesman Marius Johnson-Malone said. “That’s all you get from that department.”

In May, the Police Executive Research firm will release its recommendations to solve the issues in the region.
