MILWAUKEE, WI (KTVI)- After reports and rumors swirled on social media Sunday morning, the St. Louis Cardinals officially announced that Adam Wainwright is being placed on the 15-day disabled list with an injury to his left Achilles and left ankle.

Earlier in the morning, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported that Wainwright suffered what would be a season-ending Achilles injury during Saturday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. That report came out, despite the fact that the pitcher has not yet had an MRI.

Wainwright injured his left ankle while batting in the fifth inning.  He has been placed in a walking boot and was expected to have an MRI Monday after the team returns to St. Louis.

Catcher Cody Stanley has been recalled from Memphis (AAA).
