ST. CHARLES, MO (KTVI) – A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Tuesday marking the opening of the first ever business technology incubator in St. Charles.

Old Post Office Startups is located inside the newly renovated old St. Charles post office at 119 South Main Street in Old St. Charles.

It is a place for entrepreneurs to collaborate and learn from each other while they gear up to launch what they hope will become successful businesses.

While OPO focuses on technology, it also brings together businesses that rely on technology.  Kara Gatto is the owner of Liviara, an online lingerie designer.  They are one of the 12 businesses that have already signed on with OPO.  “It is huge because it allows us to have a space that is low cost, all inclusive and great collaboration with a lot of companies in the area, especially technology companies,” says Gatto.

Randy Schilling is the owner and founder of OPO, he says his place is “like a Starbucks on steroids.”  He says the plan is to hold regular events that bring in speakers and mentors for the startup business owners.  There will also be fund raising events that put the new business owners in touch with people looking to invest.

OPO is also helping breathe new life into the old post office building on South Main Street.  Every square inch has been renovated with state of the art communications and technology available.

There are a variety of spaces available to members ranging from a simple desk all the way up to full blown office space.

A general membership will cost you $25 per month.  A desk will run you $150 and office space starts at $500 per month.
