Unloaded gun found in high school student’s backpack

HAZELWOOD, MO (KTVI)- An student has been arrested after bring a gun to Hazelwood West High School this week. According to Hazelwood Police, school officials were tipped that a 17-year-old student had brought a gun in his backpack and showed it to another student on Monday.

On Tuesday, a Hazelwood Police School Resource Officer confronted the student, who was found to be in possession of an unloaded small caliber semi-automatic firearm and a small ammount of ammunition. The student was arrested and removed from school grounds.

Hazelwood West parents were notified of the incident.

The student will be disciplined by both the Hazelwood School District and Hazelwood Police

In a statement, the Hazelwood School District stated, “We are very proud of our students who reported the incident and the staff members who worked quickly to address this issue.  Safety is and will continue to be one of our top priorities.”
