HOUSE SPRINGS, MO (KTVI) – On Monday night two 17-year-olds were rescued from strong currents at Rockford Beach in House Springs. The High Ridge Fire Department receives several 911 calls from this water each year. Unfortunately there have also been fatalities here, including one last summer.

High Ridge Fire Chief Michael Arnhart says, “people just don't understand what danger is in the currents here. We see lots of folks come here who are not from the area and they have problems."

Rockford Beach does have strong currents and slippery rick conditions due to moss.

It is a beautiful place where people swim and fish but it can also be very dangerous for people who don't respect the Big River.

With warmer weather coming and the Memorial Day weekend just ahead, Arnhart says, "make sure someone knows where you are swimming, bring communication with you to make 911 calls, try to swim with someone else and never get in water unless you have scouted and studied the area."
