Daughter of World War I veteran to be present with his Medal of Honor
ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – It’s the highest award that can be given to military personnel, and Wednesday one local woman is preparing to accept the Medal of Honor on behalf of her father. Elsie Shemin-Roth is the daughter of World War I veteran Sergeant William Shemin.
The late sergeant is being honored for his courageous actions as a rifleman. Shemin risked his life, leaving cover and crossing into open space repeatedly to rescue other wounded soldiers.
Today, at the Jewish Federation of St. Louis, Shemin described a phone call she had with President Obama.
The entire family will be at the White House in June as Elsie is presented the award by President Obama.
