FERGUSON, MO (KTVI) - Ferguson mayor James Knowles could be fighting to keep his job.

An organization called Ground Level Support, says it has collected about 2,200 signatures on a petition calling for removing Knowles from office. The organization wants to oust Knowles because of findings in a Department of Justice report, which shows Ferguson city leaders, municipal court system and police discriminated against African Americans on a regular basis.

The group plans to present the petition to the city clerk's office Tuesday. It has 20 days to verify the signatures. If approved, the petition will be given to the Ferguson City Council to set a date for a recall election.

Organizers also plan to notify Mayor Knowles about the petition at Tuesday's city council meeting.

The mayor was not available for comment.
