CALVERTON PARK, Mo. (AP) – A St. Louis County man is facing charges for allegedly assaulting a police officer during an arrest.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 27-year-old Dewey West of Hillsdale is jailed on $25,000 bail on charges of second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and unlawful use of a firearm.

Authorities say two Calverton Park officers stopped West’s vehicle on May 23 because the headlights were not on at night. They also allegedly found that he was driving without a valid license.

Police say a search of the vehicle found a loaded gun, and West took off running. When the officers caught him, a struggle ensued. West allegedly kicked one of the officers in the face.
