MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO (KTVI) - A Maryland Heights company is setting the video game world on fire. The game is called Lara Croft Relic Run; it’s another adventure for the popular character. Only, this game is played on a portable device like a phone or tablet. Althone Torregosa is an artist at Simutronics, “I’ve seen some reviews and a lot of people are liking it.”
When it was released on Memorial Day weekend it took off like a rocket. Within six days of the games release 2.1 million people around the world had downloaded the game. Designers and artists worked 13 months creating the visual epic, countless hours in front of computers making it happen. Chris Moore works at Simutronics, “There’s actually a lot more work making something that looks so detailed so rich that plays so well.”
They celebrated when their product made the top ten popularity list in 100 countries. Christopher Ready is an artist at the company, “For people to take to this so quickly it’s a really huge success.”
They said this kind of success is extremely unusual in an industry that is swamped with competitors. Moore added, “Striking any success like that is generally on par with getting struck by lightning three times in a row on the same day.” All the success means more work; designers have already started creating another level for the game.
