Local sorority to host free HIV testing event

ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, black women have a 1 in 32 lifetime risk of getting HIV, larger than Latinas and white women. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority is hoping to increase testing for black women by offering free HIV testing with the help of federal funding from the CDC. The Eta Mu chapter of the sorority will be hosting Take Control, Take Charge, Take the Test-Know Your Status event.

The event will be Friday, June 12 from 4-7 p.m. at the Emerson YMCA, 3390 Pershall, St. Louis 63135. For more information about the event you can head to their website at sgrho1922.org.
