SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (AP) _ The U.S. Air Force is searching for a 35-year-old sergeant who disappeared while awaiting a court-martial trial at an Illinois base on sexual misconduct charges.

The Air Force Office of Special Investigations has classified Technical Sergeant David Lawrence Helm as a fugitive who is wanted for questioning in an ongoing investigation.

Military documents show that Helm is accused of sexually assaulting a girl younger than age 16 at several locations in 2013 and 2014, including Scott Air Force Base outside St. Louis; Dayton, Ohio; and LaFollette and Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Helm was scheduled to appear in a military court Monday. Air Force officials say that a judge has delayed the hearing.
