CASEYVILLE, IL (KTVI) – On Monday, police identified a man fatally shot early Saturday during a confrontation in Caseyville. Christopher Crim, 24, of Festus, was shot and killed around 2:00am outside of a trailer home on Cankelly Lane in Caseyville.

According to police, Crim and two other men, John Fox, 25, of Collinsville, and Anthony Pentecost, 22, also of Festus, went to the trailer and confronted Crim's ex-girlfriend as she tried to drive away. Pentecost reportedly struck her in the face. The men then went to the home, forced their way inside, and attacked, Dustin Prestito, 23, reportedly the woman’s new boyfriend.

Prestito's brother also lives in the trailer and heard the commotion. He confronted the three intruders, ordering them out of the home at gunpoint.

Police say Crim then got a "blunt object" and confronted the armed man outside the trailer. The brother then shot Crim, who was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Our partners at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch report that the brother has been released from custody after police determined he likely acted in self-defense.

Fox and Pentecost have been charged with home invasion and mob action, both felonies. Pentecost has also been charged with misdemeanor battery for striking the woman. Bail for both was set at $60,000.
