ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Gun violence plagued the City of St. Louis again over the weekend. Three more people were murdered and several others were shot. Police say officers went to an area hospital within the past hour to meet with a man who was reportedly shot in the foot. The injury was non-life threatening. However, police are still trying to sort out the details.
What is clear is that the city murder count is on the rise again. The killings this weekend bring the total for this year to 76.
The latest scene unfolded Sunday morning on Fairview in south St. Louis. The bodies of 42-year-old Tanisha Williams and 39-year- old Arvel Long were found inside of a home. Police believe that case is a murder- suicide.
Family members grew concerned after they were unable to reach their loved ones. Neighbors told police they heard loud arguing Friday then tried to reach Williams Friday and Saturday without any success. A neighbor went into the home yesterday and found the bodies.
That tragedy came after 24-year-old Jeremey McCartney was found murdered inside a south city apartment on Chippewa at Morganford around 3a.m. Sunday morning. He had been shot in the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
That came after 27-year-old Travis Phillips, a homeless man, was found murdered early Saturday morning inside a vacant north St. Louis home at Sullivan and Prairie.
Some residents are saying the violence must end.
Besides the three murders, there were at least four other non-fatal shootings in the city Saturday night into Sunday morning. No arrests are being reported in either the Sullivan or Chippewa murders over the weekend.
