NEW MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (AP) – Officials are investigating the death of a Pennsylvania man who died in a skydiving accident in northeast Ohio.

Owners of Skydive Rick’s in Springfield Township say the 65-year-old man’s legs became tangled in the lines of his main parachute after exiting the plane for a jump Sunday afternoon. They say the man was able to open his reserve parachute but still hit the ground too hard.

Skydive Rick’s co-owner Kay Kuhns says the Butler County, Pennsylvania, man had past parachuting experience with the military.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he died. His name wasn’t immediately released.

The Mahoning County Coroner is investigating.
