Convicted killer Richard Strong to be executed Tuesday night

BONNE TERRE, MO (KTVI) – Death row inmate, Richard strong is scheduled to be executed Tuesday night for the stabbing deaths of his girlfriend and her two-year-old daughter in their Edmundson home.

Strong is scheduled to be put to death by lethal injection just after 6 pm at the correctional facility in Bonne Terre. But state does have the option to put Strong to death in a 24-hour window, barring any last minute appeals to delay his execution.

The victims, Eva Washington and her two-year-old daughter Zandrea Thomas were stabbed repeatedly. Police recovered a bloody knife at the crime scene. It was a scene that took an emotional toll on some of the detectives who worked that case.

Last night we reported on how the lone survivor, a baby at the time, is the daughter of the killer and the daughter of the woman he murdered.  She is asking for clemency for her father, the only parent she knows.

Today Jeff talked with neighbors of the victims who say this day could not come soon enough.

They stay Strong abused Washington and deserve to die for the brutal murders.

Strong's attorneys have contended he was not represented properly at trial and that Strong grew up in difficult circumstances.

Detectives familiar with the case say the punishment fits the crime.
