Flash flooding swamps roads, cars, businesses near Winfield, MO

WINFIELD, MO (KTVI)-Torrential rains led to dangerous flash flooding and water rescues in Lincoln County Thursday night into Friday morning.   Many of those rescues happened in and around Winfield, MO. The most severe flash flooding happened on Highway 79 just south of Winfield. Cars, businesses, and at least one home were swamped by the rising water.

The MacClean Levy was overtopped as the heavy rains came down. By morning, there were 31 water rescues in Lincoln County.

Some people were forced into shelters overnight, including 25 people at Winfield Intermediate School.
