FENTON, MO (KTVI)- If the Interstate 44 bridge over the Meramec River is part of your commute, expect some delays. MoDOT is starting a new project on the I-44 bridge over the river near the I-270 approach.

For the next six weeks, one lane on eastbound I-44 will be closed around the clock. Crews will start on the far left lane, moving their way over, every 10 days or so.

To avoid congestion, you may want to consider an alternate route where possible. Crews are expected to reach the lane that exits to northbound and southbound I-270 in one month.

The eastbound bridge work should be completed before Labor Day. At that point, construction on the westbound lanes will begin.
