ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MO (KTVI)- One person was killed in a crash on westbound Interstate 70 overnight. The accident happened around 11:30p.m. on the Blanchette Memorial Bridge between St. Louis and St. Charles Counties. Drivers attempting to cross the bridge over the Missouri last night said traffic was snarled.

The Missouri Highway Patrol received a call for a stall in the westbound right lane of the Blanchette Memorial Bridge. Two troopers were dispatched to investigate. On the way, they received another call for a nearby accident with injuries and were diverted to that scene. While troopers were at the other accident, another call came through after a car hit the stalled truck on the bridge. No injuries were reported.

The driver that hit the stall left the scene. The stalled truck that was hit was pushed further into traffic.

The driver of a minivan saw the truck, tried to avoid it, over-corrected and ultimately faced oncoming westbound traffic.

A large pickup truck with a flatbed, also heading west, hit the minivan head on. One passenger was killed and the driver was transported to the hospital for treatment.

When troopers arrived, the original stalled truck was gone. The second car involved was gone as well. The driver of the flatbed fled on foot.

This is an ongoing investigation.
