ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – After a hot, sunny weekend, some criminals thought it was the perfect opportunity to break into a St. Louis summertime institution.

Detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department are working to identify whoever broke into Ted Drewes overnight on Chippewa.

Store manager Chris Beckemeier said thieves smashed a window leading to an upstairs office. They took a cash register with only a small amount of change inside.

The criminals left empty-handed otherwise, because employees had already deposited the cash from the day’s sales.

Ted Drewes does have surveillance cameras at the store. Police are examining the footage to see if the criminals were caught on camera.
