WELLSTON, MO (KTVI) - It's one of the poorest cities in the State of Missouri yet our You Paid For It investigation shows the North County City of Wellston has some of the highest paid officials of its size in the Metro area.

It's a town of about 2,300 people

Wellston pays salaries to its elected officials that are higher than many larger and better off communities.

You Pay Wellston city council members $625 a month, and you pay the mayor $20,000 a year.

That's more than salaries in cities like Clayton, Chesterfield, Berkeley and Wentzville.

Most aldermen get $300 or $400 a month.

Most mayors are paid less than $15,000 a year, a lot lower than Wellston.

But investigator Elliott Davis caught up with one aldermen who said they deserved even more money. We also caught up with the mayor who admitted it didn't sound right, but added

"It is what it is"
