Thieves targeting St. Peters for car break-ins

ST. PETERS, MO (KTVI) - While temperatures are up over the summer, so are the number of people breaking into cars, and especially true in the St. Peters area.

Officer Melissa Doss says they’ve seen a spike in break-ins over the last two weeks. At least 20 cars have been hit since July first. Garages are also part of the mix.

“In one case they found an open garage door and found an opener from the car got inside of the house took items and the victim’s vehicle.” said Doss

Thieves are targeting areas all across the city including the Highlands Subdivision. They’re also roaming in apartments and condos on Donner Pass, Sugar Glen Jane Drive and more.

“They are getting inside of your house while you are sleeping and steal belongings luckily no one has been hurt.” she said

Doss is asking residents to stay vigilant and wants reports on anyone who seems out of place. Police are also hoping to start more neighborhood watch programs in the city.
